Ans : When a class is annotated with stereo type annotations then the spring automatically registers the class in the application context so that it could be used to achieve DI or IOC. Ex; Controller classes are annotated with @Controller or @RestController or service classes with @Service or General classes with @Component.

How does Spring differ from EJB?

Ans : EJB is a standard whereas Spring is just Framework not a standard. When you choose EJB you are actually going by the J2EE standards which includes technologies like JSF, Servlets etc.
Both help in reducing the boiler plate codes. But when we use EJB you don’t have the freedom of using technologies. Since J2EE is a specification ejb can only use certain restricted apis for the building of application. For ex; You have to use the Java Transaction Api provided by the Application server like Weblogic, IBM etc. But Spring can plugin JTA provide by any vendor like Jboss etc. Also EJB uses JPA for ORM operations where as spring can use any implementation from Hibernate, Java Persistence API (JPA), Java Data Objects (JDO) or iBATIS.
EJB applications normally require a WAR which is deployed in a Web sever and an EAR which is deployed in an Application server. But Spring has only 1 deployable which is a WAR file or a JAR which could be deployed in a web server. So Spring applications are light weight.
